The Federal Aviation Administration has given clearance to AirAsia X to begin flights in the States. It is the first Asian low-cost air carrier certified to fly in the USA.
AirAsia X Berhad operates as AirAsia X. It is headquartered in Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Malaysia. The air carrier is part of the AirAsia brand. Its first flight took off in November 2007.
AirAsia X targets the low-cost budget area. It carries long and medium-haul operations. Its parent company, AirAsia is the largest low-cost carrier in Asia. AirAsia X operates in two main areas. These are Asia and the Australian continent.
Now, a new destination and country will be added to the list. An official announcement on the matter was released on Tuesday. The company declared that it received the FAA’s clearance.
FAA or the Federal Aviation Authority granted it permission to fly to any U.S.-based destination. This should help expand the carrier’s outreach outside the Asia Pacific area.
AirAsia X also pointed out another fact. It will be the first Asian low-cost air carrier to operate in the States. More exactly, it secured the approval for scheduled regular passenger flights.
Datuk Kamarudin Meranun, the group CEO, declared as follows. According to him, this is a major milestone for the company. AirAsia X is planning on expanding its route.
As such, it is considering flights to several states. Hawaii will be part of the route expansion plan. It should also be the first destination served by the air company.
The CEO also pointed out another fact. Until now, AirAsia X was concentrated on the following areas. It was focused on the Middle East, Australasia, and Asia. The U.S. flights could open an entirely new market.
Still, Kamarudin Meranun also expressed his confidence. He pointed out the company’s award-winning services. And he hoped that passengers will respond well to them. The Fly-Thru product should also help. This offers an increased connectivity.
AirAsia X describes Fly-Thru as follows. It should be an easy way for passengers to connect to any destination. But only as long as it is on the carrier’s network. This easy connection is ensured by just one stop. This is made at the company’s Kuala Lumpur hub.
AirAsia X is currently operating with a fleet of 22 aircraft. Airbus A330 planes are used. And the company is also planning an expansion here. It reportedly ordered another 76 A330’s. Another 10 aircraft are also expected to enter into service. They are Airbus A350-900 models.
AirAsia X’s first destination in the states will be Hawaii. The company stated that it is a logical first location. It should help them expand towards the mainland.
As of yet, no other details have been offered. It is unsure when the air carrier will begin flying to the U.S. Or what will be its route. Still, the company is eager to take up the regular flights.
The U.S. expansion could also open up the European market. AirAsia X used to operate flights to Paris and London. But they were canceled back in 2012. The reported cause was low demand. Now, the air carrier is planning on resuming its London flights.
AirAsia X dedicated its Tuesday announcement to Anaz Ahmad Tajuddin. He was their Chief Operating Officer. Tajuddin passed away on January 13. Meranun dedicated the announcement to him, as the company could not have reached this milestone without him.
