Capcom is trying all sorts of methods to promote its Okami game, and the latest attempt involved some help from other popular titles. Amaterasu, the main character in Okami, will get some intense promotion as a courier in no other than the popular online multiplayer Dota 2. To make sure everything would work out just fine, the Japanese company even asked the Dota fans how they would embrace the character.
Dota 2 fans are excited to have Amaterasu as a courier
Capcom launched a proposal on Steam Workshop which was addressed to all Dota fans. There, they were asked if they would enjoy the presence of Amaterasu as a courier in Dota 2. To make everything more convincing, they even designed the character in the battle arena style, and produced a video showing it in the courier role.
Capcom did all this as fans are the ones who will decide the fate of Amaterasu. The Steam Workshop page allows them to vote for the character’s introduction in the Dota 2 universe. So far, it looks like Amaterasu will receive a warm welcome in the game, as most players were excited about the idea.
This might be a strategy of promoting the new game Okami HD
This Dota 2 campaign comes right before the release of a new game in the series, Okami HD. The new release is actually a remaster of the PS2 classic, and will be available on PS4, as well as Xbox One and PC. It seems that Capcom chose a clever way to promote the upcoming game, while also hoping to attract some newcomers in the Okami universe.
While being a clear promotion strategy, it wasn’t only Capcom who was eager to introduce a character as a Dota 2 courier. Several other characters from games or TV shows have received a courier mod. Among them, there is Mr. Meeseeks from Rick and Morty, or the lovable goat from Goat Simulator.
