The 5 G trials will be made especially for Intel and this is why AT&T will perform these tests in Austin. The ones who will perform this trial mentioned that it is going to be a short one, only one month. This is a great opportunity for Intel because they have been looking for network equipment.
AT&T and Ericsson are trying to show that 5G is the best technology and that they can make great progress with it. They want to make people see that this technology can speed up many of the processes like VPNs, for instance.
4G is the best technology available on the market now and these 5G trials need to show a big difference in order to be the best on the market. These trials are made in order to show that they can change the way the internet works these days. Faster internet means better results. They need to demonstrate that the speed is going to be much faster than the one available now.
There have been some small trials for this new technology and they showed an improvement, the speed was 4Gbps. This speed was available for 4K video streams. AT&T mentioned that they will be able to offer almost 2Gbps. This is a realistic number since many people are sharing the network at Intel.
Apart from bringing better speed, this technology is also going to be great for autonomous cars because it is designed for low latency. This means that a user is going to be able to connect a handful of devices at once with the help of the 5G tech. After the 5G trials are done, this technology will be available on the market starting 2020.
