Lorex Care’N’Share baby monitors had been recalled from the market because of technical issues involving their batteries which transform the products into fire hazards.
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission declared that the producer decided to take the products off the market because the batteries can overheat and pose a risk to burn.
The batteries that become overheated can swell, expand and make the cover come off, which exposes the source and the heating can even produce a fire.
The recall involves the model numbers WL4320, WL3520, and WL3401. The model numbers can be verified by checking the panel in the back of the monitor.
The products had been manufactured in China, imported by FLIR Commercial Systems Inc. from Goleta, California, and distributed by Lorex Technology Inc. from Canada.
More than 26,000 baby monitors had been recalled from the US market, with an additional 8,000 which had been sold in Canada.
The monitors had been offered on the market together with cameras. The devices contain 5 inches long batteries that work with blue lithium polymers, packed into a white plastic box with a white or black border. The products are printed with an “LOREX” or “The Lorex Baby” mark on the screen.
Up to this moment, no injuries had been reported. However, there had been 488 reports complaining about the overheating and 140 more reports on swollen batteries and lid issues.
The baby monitors had been sold in Best Buy, Babies “R” Us, The Home Depot, Target, Walmart, Amazon and at the company’s online store, LorexTechnology.com. The prices for the bundle went from $60 to $140, and the products had been on the market starting in April 2013 just until April 2016.
The consumers are advised not to use the monitors and to contact the company for a full refund, either through their toll-free line or directly on their website.
