The Japanese game company is slowly starting to show more love for its Western fans.
This week started on rather high-note for gamers, especially those who enjoy anime, because it was recently announced that Bandai Namco is bringing some anime goodness to the PS4 in NA, and even some games for the PS Vita. Japanese gamers have been already enjoying some of these games, leaving Western players aching to get their hands on these for a while now.
The biggest release is JoJo’s Bizzare Adventure: Eyes of Heaven for PS4, a 3D fighting game inspired by the hit television series, manga and movie franchise JoJo’s Bizzare Adventure. The game is developed by CyberConnect2, the creators of the previous installment in the series, JoJo’s Bizzare Adventure: All-star Battle and the extremely popular Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm game series.
It will feature a unique 2 vs 2 battle system, with over 50 playable characters, each with unique fighting styles ranging from summoning spirits to fighting on horseback. The thematic approach of over-the-top fighting with some added posing will still hold the main focus in battle while extensive teamwork and cooperation will be required in the game’s 4 player mode, pitting two teams of two against each other.
The next games unveiled were ports for the God Eater 2: Rage Burst and God Eater Resurrection games for PS4 and Vita. The God Eater series features a gameplay similar to Monster Hunter, where you fight huge monsters while wielding giant weapons, swinging away at them in order to collect body parts, constantly improving your gear. This brings a lot of joy to PlayStation users, considering that the Monster Hunter series was switched to Nintendo, leaving Sony-user fans of said series behind. True, games like Freedom Wars, where the same concept of gameplay appears, are still good and enjoyable experiences, but they do not have the same feel that Monster Hunter and God Eater possess.
On the other hand, if you want to pilot an oversized mech at insanely high speeds, Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs-Force for the PS Vita is the game for you. Featuring playable missions from the original Mobile Suit Gundam all the way up to Mobile Suit Gundam Universal Century, the game will let players pit their strength and wits against each other in intense 2-vs-2 battles or in a more strategic approach while playing Team Battles mode.
Last but not least, Tales of Beseria will arrive on PS4 later this year. This new game from the Tales of series will feature Velvet, an angered fueled young woman who searches for the ones who betrayed her, three years before the events of the game take place. The game looks amazing, boosted by the console’s capabilities. Gameplay-wise, the game is fast-paced and rather visceral, with Velvet slashing and clawing away at her enemies, with various support characters backing her up.
It is a rather nice Christmas gift the fact that Bandai Namco is bringing some anime goodness to the PS4 in NA, especially for those inclined towards these types of games. With the prior announcements of PS4 games like Ace Combat 7 and Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom at PSX, the Sony console is still picking up speed with each year that passes, making it one of the best gaming consoles out there, even passing Xbox One in their constant race towards the top.
