Well, the DICE LA camo is surely worth resolving this complex logic puzzle involving lanterns, right?
Youtuber Jackfrags is at it again, as a new video shows how Battlefield 4’s most mind-bogglingly complex secret easter egg was revealed. The content creator Jackfrags showed every gamer last year another elusive Battlefield 4 secret in the form of the megalodon hidden in the Parcel Storm map.
One of the last secrets of this magnitude in recent memory was the P.T. Secret that eventually revealed how the demo was actually a Silent Hills trailer. It involved code breaking, taking a certain amount of steps at an exact time, random glitch screens and talking into your microphone. It took the gamers a couple of days to figure it out, a period that in internet terms is quite a huge amount.
On the other hand, this new easter egg could be considered even greater, as the game has been out for over a year up to this point. The first step towards unlocking the secret involves extensive knowledge regarding Morse code. In the Dragon Valley map, there is a flickering lantern. Its flickers are not exactly random, Jackfrags discovering that the light fixture in question actually spells out “Did you miss me? Good luck, JJJU”, a reference to the developer behind the most complex Battlefield easter eggs, Julian Manolov.
The next step requires you to activate a series of seven switches scattered around Dragon Valley. After that process is complete, a hidden keyboard will appear on a wooden pillar, which in turn gives out the Morse code stating “When night falls over the old factory a secret lurks in the openness of the North Woods. Multiple letters of the longest word and the one after it to form the code”. It’s worth noting that the solution for the lantern switch code differs from user to user, as well as the next steps in this method of resolving the secret. Players are forced to think for themselves, without any loopholes being present.
The “old factory” portion of the code refers to the Zavod: Graveyard Shift map. Once you go there, you need to wait near a specific rock until random sounds are played. By speeding them up, Jackfrags discovered that the sounds actually say “I’ve got little birdy legs”. By adding the two longest words in the sentence, the result will be the code 83980800000. Go back to the keypad from the Dragon Valley lantern puzzle and insert the aforementioned code.
After this has been done, a new Morse code will start flickering, stating how you should join a ranked conquest large game and wait two minutes by the west side portion of the shaft of the north-western water tower. An individual code will also be revealed in this portion of the easter egg, which again, differs from user to user.
Once you get the code, head to the water tower, wait for two minutes and a button which reveals a hidden keypad will appear. Insert the individual code and the message “PROMOTED!” will sound. After the match ends, you will now be the proud owner of the DICE LA camo, a customization option formerly only available to Battlefield developers. That’s it.
Even if Battlefield 4’s most mind-bogglingly complex secret easter egg was revealed, awarding those who follow the steps to use a new camo, the skin itself is not the reward. The experience in completing the secret, as well as the bragging rights that come alongside it, make up for the underwhelming camo reward. Though, taking into account that the walkthrough has been uploaded on Youtube, odds are that most players will get this camo sooner or later.
