As the Paris Climate Change Summit is set to begin on Monday, with multiple world leaders attending, talk has started to go around regarding one of the biggest announcements that will be made there, particularly Bill Gates unveiling multi-billion dollar clean energy R&D plan.
Starting on Monday and lasting for two week, the summit will feature multiple world leaders, including United Stets President Barack Obama, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Francois Hollande. It will focus on coming up with clean energy alternatives for fossil fuels, as well as renewable energy and zero-emission technologies.
More than 190 countries, including India, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Denmark and Indonesia are said to join the summit and contribute to the research and development of cleaner technologies.
Poorer countries, like India, which is currently a developing nation, as well as the World’s third largest greenhouse gas emitter, are to be helped by other, more developed countries to make a change and will be offered access to these cleaner technologies.
With multiple sponsors and investors attending, the summit is anticipated to be the biggest of its kind, and since it is going to last two weeks, it is expected that at least some changes will come in its wake.
Countries like India, which is also going to contribute funding to the research and development projects that will be developed at the summit, are asking the more developed countries that are attending to support them with the technology and resources required to make a change.
Bill Gates is said to be announcing a multibillion dollar project at the summit, which would be a first for his philanthropic foundation. Up until this point, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has “only” dealt with diminishing poverty worldwide as well as providing medical and educational programs for the needy.
This time, the software genius is going to pledge $2 billion dollars of his own personal wealth and invest them into R&D projects focused on developing cleaner energy alternatives, as well as a way to slow down the fossil fuel consumption.
Gates has previously stated that the world is currently investing a few billion dollars each year for researching zero-carbon energy ideas, and that the sum that should be invested should be three times that. He also states that he is planning on founding enough research and development projects that the worldwide carbon emissions will reach zero in the next thirty years.
