Bill Nye thinks that NASCAR should go green
The famous Bill Nye thinks that NASCAR should go green, following the Tesla pattern.
Bill Nye, best known as the host of the Disney/PBS children’s science show Bill Nye the Science Guy, is an American science educator, an actor, a writer, but also a TV presenter. He has also graduated with a B.S. in mechanical engineering.
He genuinely thinks that it would be a good idea for NASCAR to start using electric cars. He states that on his new blog entry, on Aeon, saying that “If NASCAR embraced electric cars, it could change the world”.
Why? Well, one of the reasons is how much quieter and pleasant the sport could be using this type of cars. The powerful sound during the race can be annoying for the fans, when trying to have a conversation. Sometimes, even the drivers are disturbed by it, because they can’t hear the cheering of the crowd.
Another good reason for implementing electric cars to NASCAR is the financial advantage. If the company would start using ‘green cars’, then every racing fan in the world would want one. And there are a lot of them. Think of how much money would that bring to racing companies.
The third convincing part regarding the benefits of NASCAR going green is that the cars are, obviously, eco-friendly. These days everyone is talking about how we could help the environment that we live in and make the world cleaner. Bill’s idea is one of the things that could change, in time, a lot of aspects regarding pollution causes.
So if it’s only beneficial, then what’s the catch? Well, as this idea looks very good in theory, it might not be feasible practically. Going ‘eco-friendly’ requires many stringent conditions that not every company is likely to follow easily.
Rick Morgan with PJ Media, a conservative news website, points the downs of Nye’s idea, writing that “electric cars wouldn’t be able to compete with a stock car equipped with a standard combustion engine”.
However, there are important people supporting Bill Nye in his innovative advice, starting with Dr. Mike Lynch, NASCAR’s managing director of green innovation. He firmly stated in Fortune Magazine, in 2013, that the company is completely open to producing type of cars, especially if they are ‘eco-friendly’.
Wrapping up the theory elegantly, Nye adds that the name of the car racing institution should be changed to NESCAR (National Electric Stock Car Racing).
From a social media point of view, there are many Twitter posts in favor of Nye’s idea. One of the posts, according to Aeon Magazine, sounds like this: “If NASCAR embraced electric cars, it could help start an energy revolution.”
What remains, is to keep posted and see if this change will happen in the near future.
