Recently, a North Carolina University researchers developed a new technology that turns cockroaches into cyborgs (biobots), which could assist in search and rescue operations following a catastrophe.
The researchers at North Carolina State University developed a technology, which basically exploits on the pliant nature of cockroaches, giving them the skill to incarcerate sound through tiny microphones plus determine the basis of the sound. In order to allow cockroach cyborgs to help with rescue operations, the cyborgs are fitted with small electronic backpacks to control their actions.
The scientists have personalized two kinds of electronic backpacks that the cyborgs could be outfitted. Among the backpacks includes a single multi-directional microphone which could capture relatively high-resolution echo that’s sent easily to first responders as the other backpack features multiple three-directional microphones that identify the position of the sound towards that the cyborgs are intuitively directed.
Observing the key objective behind we’ve got the technology is by using cyborg roaches rich in-resolution microphones to differentiate between important and trivial sounds, among the scientists, Dr. Alper Bozkurt, stated: “Once we have recognized sounds that matter, we are able to make use of the biobots outfitted with microphone arrays to focus on where individual sounds are originating from.
