Although the award-winning Duke Nukem franchise might have been abandoned back in 2011, it would seem that it was not entirely forgotten. Paramount and Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes have set the wheels in motion for a motion picture starring the ever-charismatic video game hero.
Who Will Play Duke Nukem?
Probably the best question anyone could ask right now is who will play Duke Nukem? Although the floor is still opened for nominations, it would seem that Paramount has been eyeballing someone who could play Duke Nukem’s role without breaking a sweat.
The studio’s favorite is none other than the amazing John Cena, professional wrestling champ, actor, philanthropist, playboy, and, of course, the uncredited source of inspiration of the ‘now you see me’ meme.
Now, all of these are just rumors, but it would seem that the studios are hell-bent on making the motion pictures. According to Paramount’s official statement, the Duke Nukem motion pictures has entered the early pre-production stage, meaning that they are still looking for things like a cast, a director, and someone to write the movie’s plot.
All in all, it seems great, especially because the dude deserves his own rule. As you recall, the last production to feature the steroid-addicted American anti-hero was Duke Nukem Forever. The story focused on a fame-addicted, but bored superhero Duke Nukem, who spends all day long giving autographs, drinking beer, popping pills, and ‘talking’ to women dressed in schoolgirl outfits.
The franchise is much older than that, the first game being launched back in 1991. Although not as popular as other platformers or shooting games, the Duke Nukem series rapidly earned popularity mostly due to the character who looked like the embodiment of every American cliché.
Timeline-wise, we don’t have much to say, as Paramount said that the talks are still on.
