If you are just marginally up with the latest social media trends, then you surely heard about, or talked about, or used Ello.
Ello is the latest phenomenon of the week, which exploded all over the scene and is being called as Anti-Facebook. The co-founder of Ello, Paul Budnitz stated that, the requests concerning to join the Ello were counted as 40,000 per hour. Though, the LGBT community kicked off the Facebook just because of its so-called ‘real’ name policy and now embracing Ello. We have assured the users of no advertising, that’s seemed to be one of the reasons, people calling it as Anti-Facebook.
Though, to maintain the relevancy in a huge social networking market won’t be an easy task. One of the Ello’s problems that actually prevented the user to access the site is the cyber-attack.
To Attract the Vast Majority, Not Wanting Few Loud Rebels
Certainly, the history won’t be on Ello’s side. A platform, naming App.net used to access lots of applications on one lone network, kicked off with the manifesto similar to Ello’s way back in 2012. The app founder Dalton Caldwell censured Twitter (service it believed to be an alternative for) for its ad supported model similar to Ello’s review of Facebook.
Brian Soils, principal analyst at Altimeter Group stated that, there are just few people who had issues with the Facebook design and the access to users’ data. Seeming like a ‘Product’ is not a commonly felt criticism.
Not like Facebook that makes 90% of its money from ads, Ello doesn’t sell ads in order to support its business. We have plans to make money through freemium models, which means users can buy special features in order to customize their Ello.
ELLO Appeals Users to the Site but What Will Keep Them There?
The reports revealed that, Ello is packed with the requests; especially because it’s everywhere in the news and people don’t really want to miss it. Though, ELLO doesn’t have the capacity to keep the users on the site.
Soils said, as much as we hate Facebook, Ello’s have done a good job to capture the attentions of the users. Though the time spent on Facebook is useless and it’s not a coincidence.”
‘It still seems unclear that why user would prefer Ello over Facebook,’ Soils stated.
Ello still needs lots of development in the product, and the aspirations are not as high as everyone is thinking out there, Soil says.
