Both players and game developers hate cheating, as such toxic behavior can disturb the entire game experience for everyone. As a result, many studios started taking different measures against cheaters. Most of the time, they get banned either temporarily or permanently from playing the game, but Epic Games felt like this was not enough, so it ended up suing a player for cheating.
Epic Games sued two players for cheating
Epic Games, which is best known for developing Fortnite, has decided to take some extreme measures against cheating. Instead of just banning the players forever, the developer decided to sue two of the people who disrupted the gaming experience of others. The act is even more extreme if you think that one of the players is only 14.
At first, Epic Games claimed the two players used an aimbot. Afterwards, it revealed they actually did a lot more than just cheating, which couldn’t remain unpunished. They appeared to have helped with the stream sniping of popular Twitch users.
One of the sued players is only 14, but his mom won’t stand back
Stream sniping consists of watching a live broadcast of a Twitch user and analyzing its position and actions. Based on these observations, the stream snipers can identify the exact position of the streaming user, and then sneak up and kill them. This can be incredibly disrupting, and many developers sanction this behavior.
However, issuing a lawsuit against a 14-year-old player seems a bit extreme. When confronted about the problem, Epic Games said they wanted to offer a fun experience for all players, thus condemning cheating regardless of age. However, the boy’s mother is going to fight back, as she claims she and her son are only scapegoats.
This is not the first time when game developers take legal action against cheating. However, in most of the cases, the lawsuits were directed against those who created cheats to be used by others, not against individual players who performed the cheating.
