Bethesda Announces Fallout 4 DLC Far Harbor

Previous and upcoming Fallout 4 DLCs

Few video games are as appreciated by their fan base as much as Fallout. The first two games in the series were some of the best RPGs ever made, surprising players with very compelling storylines, a huge amount of beautifully crafted lore and backstories, and some of the most complex gameplay and choice systems in history.

The third game in the series was a total disappointment. It took everything that made the previous games good and it, leaving us with a disappointing 3D RPG action game that lacked what the fans loved about the originals. Understandably, it wasn’t all that well received – although it did captivate plenty of new players with the world’s complex lore.

Fallout: New Vegas was a return to the roots, and even though it was mostly based on Fallout 3, it managed to capture the same brilliant blend of ridiculousness and drama that made the first games so good. Add to that the old-timey western radio songs made the game a truly unforgettable experience.

And then came Fallout 4, which ended up being one of the most divisive games ever made. Fans of the original games (and New Vegas) can’t really get into it, since the interface, dialogue options, as well as the overall atmosphere of the game have definitely taken a plunge, but the complexity of the in-game world and the fact that Dogmeat was brought back made it difficult to not at least attempt to speed through it.

Many fans see Fallout 4 just like GTA 4 – in theory, it should have been great, but there are many issues because of which it just doesn’t click. And I have to mention the similarities between Fallout 4’s Preston Garvey and the many settlements he asks you to help and GTA 4’s Roman and his impromptu bowling sessions.

But the company is still trying to get people to enjoy the game. So, marking a record for the company, Bethesda announces Fallout 4 DLC Far Harbor. The record of which it is guilty of breaking is being the largest DLC ever made by Bethesda for any game ever – including Skyrim.

Scheduled to come out on May 19th, the Far Harbor DLC will bring a new assortment of weapons, as well as a new storyline. The character is sent to an island off the coast of Maine, where they have to resolve (or not, you can do whatever you want) a conflict between several different factions.

What’s interesting is that the area will be much more heavily radiated, meaning that we’ll run into new creatures and interesting ghouls. Additionally, a diving suit was featured in the trailer, so the new DLC will most likely feature a great deal of underwater exploration. We’ll just have to wait and see whether the Far Harbor DLC has any chances of making the overall Fallout 4 experience better.
