When you are pregnant you need to be extra careful with your diet, in order to have a healthy baby. Doctors recommend pregnant women to stop eating some products including marine animals. This is because they might contain substances that are dangerous for your baby.
This is why the FDA issued a notice about which type of fish is safe to eat and why is not. These recommendations also apply to children who are sensitive when it comes to food. The FDA put foods into 3 categories: good choice, choices to avoid, and best choice.
The EPA and the FDA also mentioned how much and how often you can eat these products in order to have a healthy baby. Fish is important in our diet because it contains a lot of fats that can be great for our body.
A recent survey shows that women tend to eat less fish during pregnancy because they are scared this can be bad for their baby. The FDA mentioned that even pregnant women should have a diversified diet that includes fish.
Despite this, the FDA said that it is important to know what type of fish is good during pregnancy or in the alimentation of small children. The advice said that 2 servings of low-mercury fish every week are a great choice for pregnant women.
The FDA did say that too much fish can be bad during pregnancy because it contains too much mercury. If a person consumes too much fish it can be harmful to their nervous system and brain. When it comes to children the amount of fish that can be consumed in one week is 2 or 3 servings.
The servings for children should also be smaller than the ones for adults because children need to eat less than adults do. The FDA mentioned that children and women during pregnancy should avoid 7 types of fished because they have too much mercury. The fished that should be avoided include marlin, swordfish, and shark.
Women during pregnancy should follow these recommendations in order to stay healthy and have a safe pregnancy. Let’s hope that both parents and pregnant women follow these recommendations.
