Google just acquired API.ai, a company that builds interactive chatbots. This acquisition was made this Monday. API.ai helps Facebook, Kik and Slack have better conversation bots.
The Chatbots are pieces of software or apps with which the users are able to interact via text or speech. These apps respond by carrying out a task or by providing information. They are made with artificial intelligence (AI).
The titans of the internet, Google, Facebook, Amazon and Microsoft believe that these conversations with an app will be the future.
It is hard for a computer to understand natural language and this is why Google needed to get API.ai, to support the software in order for it to understand context and different tones of voice.
60.000 developers use the API.ai platform for creating this type of conversational interface for app such as Facebook Messenger and Kik. This platform has many tools that understand human language and can translate it into action.
Along with this set of tools the platform also offers a pack of capabilities for understanding the natural language. Domains is a pre-defined package that makes the lives of assistants easier by helping them understand common requests for coding.
API.ai’s CEO, Ilya Gelfenbeyn says that the fact that they joined Google is a great accomplishment and it will make it easier for them to update and improve the platform and their services. With the help and resources of Google , Ilya Gelfenbeyn, believes that API.ai will have access to the best technology and will get support for their development.
Google has recently released a Cloud Natural Language API so this company is not new in the chatbots business. The Cloud Natural Language API allows users to take advantage of the capabilities of natural language built at Google.
The acquirement of API.ai comes just a few months after Google mentioned the release of Ello, a chat app that will allow users to have bots in a conversation. This application was not released yet but it is believed that API.ai is going to build and improve it.
Google was not the only one that made this type of transaction. Facebook bought Wit.ai, a company that will design the new chatbot for Facebook Messenger. Oracle also announced on Sunday that they will develop a chatbot as well.
Do you think that chatbots are the future?
