Google Maps now with verbal notifications for traffic conditions.
Following a recent Waze update, Google Maps uses verbal notifications to warn users in traffic. The update is valid only for the iOS version and is similar to the upgrade that Android users have seen at the beginning of the year.
Google Maps is adding new features to make it easier for drivers to plan their routes in advance. Unlike previous versions that briefed drivers through a written message, the recent upgrade for Google Maps iOS delivers verbal reports on traffic conditions. This method reduces the amount of time that the app normally requires to let people know what is going on in traffic.
The new features will turn out particularly useful on the road. Drivers don’t have time to read notifications, so Google Maps did a good thing when they chose to add verbal notification to inform users of possible obstacles on the road. They hope they can, thus, make drivers pay more attention to traffic conditions and help them react in due time.
Google Maps users have been expecting a similar upgrade a long time ago, particularly since their driving app, Waze has gone through similar modifications recently. Yet, the two apps have completely different applications. While Google Maps is mainly informative, Waze remains a social network that keeps drivers connected while on the road. No matter how accurate Google Maps may be, it can never replace the strong drivers’ community existing on Waze.
The upgrade for the Google Maps is valid for iOS devices. Android-based gadgets already benefit of verbal notifications from May, the company has concluded.
