As of last month, encryption secured 77% of requests coming from computers all over the planet to Google’s web servers, which is a considerable increase from 52% a couple of years ago, according to recent numbers.
Released this week as an element of the search engine’s transparency reports, the data includes the majority of Google global traffic, apart from YouTube. The online giant stated that it is trying to reach complete security across all their services and products.
Since the summer of 2014, all of Gmail’s connections have been secured with HTTPS links, a procedure that allows a web browser or application to safely direct to a site. As the company describes in its review, HTTPS depends on encryption, TLS or SSL, to protect the link.
This provides security against eavesdropping, undercover strikes and hackers who make numerous efforts to spoof reliable web pages. Google’s experts are trying to apply HTTPS within all of their items, the company stated.
They keep going through the technological limitations that make a lot harder to assist the encryption on the majority of their platforms. Separating the figures by services, all customers from Google Drive and 85% of Google Map’s visitors are currently secured with HTTPS links, the organization’s charts show.
This type of protection also differs by nation, due to the wide range of aspects, such as the types of gadgets that are used in that region, in addition to it, the accessibility to programs that can assist modern TLS systems matters as well, the search engine said.
Mexico is currently at the top of protected connectivity, with encryption defending 85% of its visitors Google. They are followed by South American countries at 80%, while U.K., Japan and India are in the third place at over 75 percent.
The United States come after that, with encryption securing more than 70% of requests that Google receives from its residents. The company also notices that a large amount of their unencrypted end customer traffic arrives from mobile gadgets.
This mostly happens because various older products are not able to support modern security requirements or methods. Unfortunately, these gadgets may not be updated and will never support security, Google’s experts have written in the review.
Several other tech and governmental challenges are waiting in the front of Google’s objective to reach complete security. This includes nations that block and otherwise break down HTTPS visits, caused by the lack of technological feature within some companies to apply it.
