While Microsoft has been busy promoting its Windows Phone, Huawei has just surpassed it on the phone market, to everybody’s surprise.
The Chinese company has reached third place on Strategy Analytics’ largest mobile phone vendor list for the first two quarters of 2015, as it has shipped a whopping 30.6 million phones so far. This is a tremendously impressive rise from this time last year, when it had only sold about half of these. Huawei has worked its way up the success ladder and it intends to maintain its position for quite some time. The only way that they expect to go from here is up, but they do realize that surpassing Apple and Samsung is still clearly out of their league.
Huawei has also reached the third spot on the market share list for this year’s first two quarters, thus demonstrating that providing quality phones at affordable prices is still a strategy of considerable appeal among buyers. The Chinese phone company has earned 7% market share, which is extremely impressive considering that world famous Apple has 10%.
Samsung is still dominating the mobile phone market by far with 71.9 million phones shipped in the second quarter and a 20% market share. It has a considerable advantage in the face of Apple’s mere 47.5 million shipped mobile phones and Microsoft 27.8 million.
However, this hierarchy is not maintained on the profit lists as well, since Apple has sold 47.5 million expensive high-end phones, while Samsung has sold 71.9 million phones of all shapes and sizes, ranging from basic models to sophisticated high-tech ones. This translates to lesser profits for Samsung and higher ones for Apple, that always seems to find a way to stay on top.
Microsoft has a lot of catching up to do, so that it can resume its place in the top three mobile phone makers, but from the looks of it Huawei aims to put up quite a fight for its newly acquired third spot, so it seems that the Windows Phone has its work cut out for it.
It remains to be seen how the situation will shift in the third quarter, but Huawei has all the chances to continue on its winning streak and stay put in third place.
