Amazon’s founder Jeff Bezos dreams of a future where trillions of people live and thrive in space. The multi-billionaire wants a world that is safe and challenging for his great-grandchildren’s great-grandchildren.
He envisions other planets being populated by humans, with “thousands of Mozarts” and “thousands of Einsteins” being born in space. Bezos unveiled his hopes for the future in an interview in Business Insider.
The businessman also said that he has been interested in space since he was 5 years old. Bezos, whose net fortune is $130 billion, believes that the human race will stagnate if it fails to colonize space.
He added that a civilization that stagnates is “very demoralizing” and he expressed hope that the humanity will enjoy a new era of growth and change in space.
People Will Have to Live in Space to Fix Their Energy Consumption Problems
SpaceX’s boss Elon Musk agrees with Bezos that a “spacefaring civilization” is a lot more exciting than a civilization that is Earth-locked.
In the latest interview, Bezos explained how humanity can stagnate based on energy consumption. Over the last century, the Earth’s population’s energy consumption climbed by a few percents each year.
Bezos claims that we will have to cover the entire surface of the planet in solar panels to give everyone energy over the next few hundred years.
That’s the real energy crisis. And it’s happening soon. And by soon, I mean within just a few hundred years,
the Amazon.com boss said.
He added that a solution would be a “life of stasis” where you set limits on energy consumption. But statis is not a good thing, in the billionaire’s view. Exponential growth will soon follow when humanity is able to colonize space.
