Starting with June 1st, Lego fans can get busy with a new version of the historical Apollo Saturn V rocket. This latest model will stand at over 39 inches high and will come with exactly 1,969 pieces in the set. Customers will also find a lunar orbiter, the Apollo lunar lander, and even 3 astronauts hidden inside the model.
LEGO’s New Saturn V Model Started Out As A Submission
The idea for a new Apollo rocket model was first presented back in 2014. At the time, it was submitted to the LEGO Ideas website. Users can enter their concept for a new Lego set. However, they need to receive 10,000 votes to be taken into consideration by the colorful bricks builders.
A year later, the Saturn V model gathered the required votes of approval, and in 2016, the company green-lighted the idea. Now, fans and space enthusiasts can take their first look at this new version. A first “Saturn V Moon Mission” set was released back in 2003. At the time, it was part of a series of products co-branded with Discovery Channel and came with significantly fewer pieces, just 178.
This most recent LEGO Saturn V will come with a ages 14 and up recommendation. Consisting of exactly 1,969 pieces, the whole model rocket will be over 39 inches tall and some 17 cm in diameter. Besides the tiny Apollo Lunar Lander and a small part of the Command/Service Module, the set will also have 3 removable rocket stages. The model will also include 3 astronaut figures, just right for lunar surface walks.
The Saturn V model will come at a scale of around 1:110 of the original, real-life rocket. Saturn V stood at 363 feet tall.
Set for release on June 1st, the Saturn V set will come with a suggested retail price of around $119.99. This will also not be LEGO’s only space science and travel new set. The company also announced the production of another fan submission, the Women of NASA set.
