McDonald’s Adds Mac and Cheese on Menus In Ohio

"mac and cheese"

It may not be the most luxurious of dishes, but it’s extremely delicious nonetheless.

If people want some cheesy goodness from one of the most popular food companies on Earth, McDonald’s adds mac and cheese on menus in Ohio. The offer will be available in 18 restaurants across Cleveland, with odds of the company adding this dish to every restaurant in the US being likely, depending on customer feedback.

Mac and cheese is exactly what it sounds like, an oven-baked casserole consisting of macaroni pasta and cheese, with Cheddar being the most commonly used type. Other ingredients like vegetables, bread crumbs or meat can be added as well, but the traditional plate consists of pasta and cheese exclusively. The first recipe dates from back in the 14th century, being spotted in the oldest medieval cookbook, the Italian Liber de Coquina, even if the cheese used was parmesan, not cheddar.

This food is popular in English-speaking countries like the UK, US, Australia, and Canada, as well as other countries like New Zealand. It is not surprising that McDonald’s is considering the addition of this dish to its menu, given its popularity.

The offerings served at McDonald’s come in two types, either a normal serving or mixed in a Happy Meal. The normal portion consists of a 200 calorie serving, with 5 grams of whole grain and 5 grams of protein inside its 4-ounce helping.

Both of the two variations have been on Ohio menus since November, with $3 for a Happy Meal with mac and cheese, fries, fruits and milk, and $1.75 for a normal plate. It is unclear if after customer feedback the prices will go through modifications or not. But at this point, they seem relatively adequate.

McDonald’s is keeping with its 100-year tradition of attempting to satisfy every customer by offering relevant tastes on their menu. By adding the common American dish to their menu, the wide spectrum of offered products will gain another valued addition in their ranks.

Although it is still too early to state if mac and cheese will become a usual serving at McDonald’s restaurant, odds are that many American citizens will enjoy this dish enough for it to become relevant. Everything will become clear after February 2016 when the company will analyze customer feedback, as well as the number of dishes ordered throughout the 3 month period.

It is worth noting that the macaroni and cheese serving arrives frozen at restaurants, according to employees, like almost every other McDonald’s product. This might put people off when considering if they should order a helping of mac and cheese, but given that most of the fast-food product chains get their products in the same manner, it might not change their minds by a great extent.

Even if McDonald’s adds mac and cheese on menus in Ohio, with other states likely to join the fray in the near future, customer feedback is the most important factor in deciding if this dish is viable or not. Macaroni and cheese is relatively simple to make at home, you just need an oven, some pasta, and some cheese, it’s not exactly rocket science. It depends on individual preference if having this meal on the go is entirely feasible or not.
