This 1972 NASA photo has given fodder to conspiracy theorists that claim the moon landing was fake.
A new conspiracy theory claims that a recently-surfaced NASA photograph of the moon landing was a hoax. The theory adds to current speculation that NASA’s Apollo 11 mission and several subsequent lunar missions were staged.
Surprisingly, many people believe that the U.S. faked the first moon landing to get ahead of the Soviet Union in the space race.
Conspiracy theorists claim that the newly-released NASA photo shows a strange structure on the Moon that looks like a base. The photo shows the chief of the Apollo 16 mission, Commander John W. Young, on the moon surface while collecting some samples.
NASA’s caption to the photo says that in the background of the place where the Lunar Roving Vehicle stands there is a “field of large boulders.”
Moon Landing Was Fake
Nevertheless, conspiracy theorists claim otherwise. They have even posted a clip on YouTube to debunk NASA’s claims. According to the theory, the “boulders” in the photo are a spaceship, a “habitat building,” and additional personnel.
There are two groups of conspiracy theorists when it comes to the moon landing. The first group believes that the moon landing was staged in a Hollywood studio. According to this theory, the structures in the background could be props from the studio.
The second group believes that Apollo 16 did land on the Moon in 1972 but found alien life and hid it from the public. According to this theory, NASA edited the mission’s images to remove evidence of alien life. UFO fans claim that the “boulders” in the background are alien structures.
If you look at the video’s comment section will see that most commenters believe the structures are rocky outcrops and nothing more. Yet, this does not prevent many other people from believing that the moon landing was a hoax.
