A recent research revealed that the Mexican free-tailed bat make use of echolocation communication skills to interfere with each other.
It is indeed a really surprising study since we never imagined that bats can work like footballers or Navy engineer. Bats utilize echolocation to locate its prey. However, there are some species like Tiger moth who can produce sounds which interferes with the bat’s echolocation.
A biology student of University of Maryland postdoctoral accidentally began this study.
William Conner stated that the new report reveals technique which bats usually use. These bats fight like some kind of aerial dogs. They try really hard to jam the each others’ signals.
Moreover, Conner informed that these bats continue their fight until one of them runs away. The experts analyzed the bats flying in the parking lots with the help of ultra sound microphones and sensitive cameras. They observed that bats receive a sound from its rival and then form a jamming call.
Furthermore, they noticed that bats can make 15 different kinds of calls. Nonetheless, they always hunt individually not in any kind of group. Experts examined the recorded data and discovered that particular sound can disturb the bats in their hunt.
The study is published in the Journal Science.
