The previous year, researchers from the CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) declared that they have discovered a particle that might be Higgs Boson – a particle that gives mass to other particles. However, the recent research revealed that the particle discovered by CERN might not be the Higgs Boson.
The physicists said that, CERN experiments had found a unique particle that had never been seen before. “There was no conclusive evidence that the particle was a Higgs Boson particle,” an international team of researchers claimed.
Mads Toudal Frandsen, an associate professor at the Center for Cosmology and Particle Physics Phenomenology explained that Higgs particle is a part of the Standard Model in physics. It was true that it could give details about the data and particle, but there are some other explanations that are capable of providing that data from other particles, he added.
“The particle that CERN researchers discovered last year might be called a techni-higgs particle, as it has some features of Higgs particle, but it is not right to say that the particle was Higgs particle,” Frandsen said.
The recent study does not disgrace the CERN’s discovery and there might be the possibilities that the European organization had discovered the Higgs particle. But the study also stated that it can also be possible that the particle just looks like the Higgs particle.
In order to find out that the particle discovered by CERN was a Higgs or a techni-higgs particle, more data would be needed from the organization, researchers said. It is necessary to study every single detail of CERN’s discovery. If an organization for Nuclear Research, is an even more powerful accelerator, it would be able to observe techni-quarks directly. The first person to propose the idea of Higgs particle was the Peter Higgs.
