Staminus Communication, an online security company whose activity consists of protecting clients from DDoS online attacks, was surprisingly the victim of similar strikes that made its system inoperable for almost an entire day.
Last week, the company said that the hacking attempt happened during the morning. No party has claimed liability for the strike, which remarkably also affected the accounts of other related organizations.
Several hours later, Staminus confirmed on Twitter that its international services were resorted online. However, they did not detail what caused this sudden network failure. The level of damage was clear when an anonymous poster released numerous links about what were apparently the company’s client data, bankcards and accounts and private information.
The protection firm’s officials eliminated these doubts the next day, talking about the DDoS attack, which made the service nonfunctional. Following up the previous announcements regarding the network failure, they have confirmed that all problems were caused by an illegal intrusion into the system.
As an outcome of this strike, all services were shortly taken down and user details were leaked online. Upon finding this hacking attempt, Staminus took urgent measures such as releasing an analysis about the attack, informing law administration and repairing all platforms, mentioned the representatives in their press release.
Preliminary tests have shown that this data leakage involved the usernames, transaction information, hashed protection passwords as well as client history specifications, such as their contact data and names.
However, Staminus affirmed that since they did not collect the tax and Social Security details from its clients, these were safe. The company also affirmed that as their research carries on, they would continue to implement more safety measures in order to improve its protection.
The officials also said that, even if the protection passwords of clients were secured by a cryptographic hash, clients would be safer by modifying the security data as the best measure. Staminus also talked about the worries of their clients by stating that, even if the firm had efficiently stopped the attack.
They do not stop at this level and will keep performing further operations to improve data protection guidelines, as well as securing its clients’ information. People concerned that their bankcard data might have been leaked must verify their or card statements to look for any possibly suspicious action.
If they see any unauthorized action, they should immediately inform the bank or report the problem to the legal authorities. Furthermore, users must no offer individual information to unwanted demands that claim of being from a person’s financial institution or Staminus.
