Autonomous cars are the future of transportation. More and more car companies are designing self-driving cars and even busses. In order to make them available to the large public, they need to test them first. California is the state that gave permission to more than 20 companies to test their cars.
Subaru is one of those 22 companies that made the cut. Subaru is now able to test its autonomous cars in California. Some of the automakers that also made the cut include Mercedes, Tesla, and Google. On Friday, Subaru was also added to the list of automakers that are allowed to test their autonomous cars in California.
Subaru already has cars that are “intelligent” because they have features that include “EyeSight” options. This type of feature is also available in self-driving cars. Other features that are included in these cars include cruise control optimization, lane swerving warning, and monitor of traffic movement.
All of these features that are known as smart driving features are available for some Subaru models including Legacy, WRX models, and Impreza. Despite the fact that these options are available for existing cars, the automaker announced that their autonomous cars are going to be even better and more equipped.
Subaru mentioned that their goal is to provide semi-autonomous cars by 2020. This means that they are not prepared to test autonomous cars just yet. The automaker also mentioned that they want to include some new features for these autonomous cars. They said that their cars will be able to switch lanes and take curves without human help.
Although many people are still skeptical about autonomous cars, the automakers are optimistic because they believe that once people will be able to test self-driving vehicles they will change their minds. This is why more and more companies are trying to get permission to test their vehicles in real-life situations.
Since 2014, California has been the state that allowed these automakers to test their autonomous cars in real-life situations. These cars need to be tested on city streets and highways in order to be sure that they are safe for customers to buy.
What is your opinion about these self-driving vehicles? Do you think that it is safe to test them on highways and city streets?
