Apple has shifted some of their iCloud and data solutions from Amazon’s Web Services directly to Google’s vast cloud system. This is considered an important move by the phone manufacturer to broaden its cloud services, according to reviews.
The shift comes while the Cupertino giant is developing its own improved information facilities, leading to numerous rumors whether the transfer is only on short-term. Google is one of the main competitors of Apple for mobile phones and other gadgets, but such offers are normal among tech organizations in segments where they do not contend.
After signing a deal with the search engine in the fall of 2015, Apple has considerably decreased its dependence on AWS. These facilities have been used to run various areas of iCloud or other systems, revealed tech sources, quoting experts that understand this type of problems.
They estimated Apple’s investment with Google’s services at somewhere between $450 million and $500 million. However, the specialists said that it is not certain whether the numbers regarded a yearly investing rate or the estimated amount of potential. Google, Apple and AWS did not offer their official opinion on this matter.
Apple is establishing a few information “command centers” in Phoenix, Arizona. The company also intends to develop data facilities in Ireland or other European countries that are predicted to start functioning in 2017.
These systems will power other online solutions such as the App Store, iTunes Store, iMessage, Siri and Maps for clients across Europe. In February, a number of seasoned tech analysts affirmed that the recent data center opening has shown that Apple wanted to move internally a number of its cloud solutions that are now working on AWS.
The experts approximated that Apple usually spends more than $1 billion yearly on AWS support, supposing that over 85 percent of these cloud businesses come from Amazon’s huge online platform. It is unclear though if the systems that Apple is moving from Amazon to Google come in addition to those that the company wants to shift in-house.
Some news websites brought a new perspective to Apple’s technique on information facilities, declaring that the organization has assembled a group, known as McQueen. They have the objective of reducing its dependency on external cloud suppliers, while it concentrates on developing its own framework.
The strategy within the organization is instead of spending money on several cloud suppliers, Apple can continue the activity even with their own data networks in around three years, the experts said quoting people acquainted with the issue.
In addition, to that, Apple is known to use system from Microsoft’s Azure platform. For Google, Apple’s huge business may help as the Cupertino organization is contending with leading companies such as Microsoft Azure and AWS in the online cloud segment.
