A family from Florida was overjoyed to hear that they can take one of their children home. The conjoined twin was discharged from the hospital, after undergoing multiple surgeries and spending 13 months in the hospital.
In 2014, Michelle Brantley gave birth to Connor and Carter in December. Unfortunately, Connor was born conjoined with his brother Carter. According to the doctors in charge of the case, the two baby boys were conjoined along the abdomen line. Moreover, the boys shared a common small intestine and their livers were also fused.
In order to survive, the conjoined twins had to go through multiple surgeries. The lengthiest was took nearly 12 hours, but the doctors managed to separate the two brothers.
After spending more than a year in the Wolfson Children’s Hospital, Connor was discharged by his attending physicians. The doctors gave the news to the family and it would seem that Bryan Mirabal, the father of Connor and Carter, is anxious to start his full-time job as a father.
In a press conference, Bryan declared that he couldn’t wait to bring his son home because he has many things to teach him. It would seem that Connor will start learning about cars and dogs sooner than he may realize.
Meanwhile, Michelle Brantley, Bryan’s wife and the mother of the formerly conjoined twins declared that while Connor is free to leave the hospital, the doctors have decided to keep his brother Carter for further observation and treatments.
Connor, the formerly conjoined twin was discharged from the hospital after spending all of his life in the hospital. Moreover, it would seem that he and his brother were consulted and care for by more than 200 medical specialists, including pediatricians, surgeons, and nurses.
Furthermore, this is the first time after the separation that Connor had to leave Carter’s side. On Wednesday, in the same press interview, their mother also declared that before being taken home, Connor got to see his brother one last time.
When seeing his brother, Carter started to cry, but his brother kept smiling back at him. All, this time, they were holding hands as if it was a natural thing. Brantley, the mother of the twins declared that they cannot yet fathom that the two children cannot yet fathom the concept of brotherhood, but deep inside they know that there is a strong connection between them.
Daniel Robie, the head of pediatric surgery at the hospital was there from the beginning. The doctor also said that it is hard for him to see Connor living after spending more than a year caring for the twins. But he also told the reporters that they have another path to follow.
