Consumption of High Trans Fat Can Negatively Impact Your Brain Memory

November 20, 2014 By Rebecca McGhee Leave a Comment

Trans fat can give birth to memory loss

A recent study revealed that a lot of consumption of trans fat can harm your memory.

Tans fat is an unsaturated fat which is artificially created. It is one of the worst types of fat as it gives birth to diseases like heart attacks, obesity and much more.   Nowadays, it is present in the majority of the junk food such as burger, pizza, fries and confectioneries. Generally, people use it to enhance the texture, flavor and life span of a particular processed food.

The experts of UC San Francisco carried out a survey in which they closely examined the eating habits of 1,000.  Afterwards, researchers concluded that men below 45 ages damaged their memory with trans food. Generally, the middle age and young age of men is considered as a very important time period of life in terms of career.

However, the study demonstrated that the participant of the study usually remember 86 words. Surprisingly, each gram of Trans fat eats up nearly 0.6 words from the brain of that person.  On the other hand, members who ate large amounts of fat forgot 11 words as compared to the ordinary ones.

Dr. Beatrice A Golomb, the main author of the study informed that Trans fat lead to oxidative stress which is famous to damage cells.

Currently, a Trans fat is heavily criticized for its harmful effects on human health. More than 70 fast food companies of United States such as Burger King, Unilever, Asda and Pizza hut tried to reduce the amount of Trans fats from their food.

In 2003, The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) made it obligatory that every food item should display the amount of Trans fat on its packaging.

The researchers presented the study in the Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions.
