Teen Almost Died After Performing the “Duct Tape Challenge”

There have been a number of viral internet challenges that put the life of teenagers at risk.

The internet trends are getting out of control after a teen almost died after performing the “Duct Tape Challenge”. This is not the first time when something like this happens as before tying themselves with duct tape, teenagers used to try and eat a spoonful of freshly grounded cinnamon, or they did the “Kylie Jenner Challenge”.

A new trend appeared a couple of years ago in which you find a unique challenge, film yourself while completing it, put it on YouTube and hope to go viral.

The best example is the “Ice Bucket Challenge” in which participants poured a bucket a freezing water on their head. But it was created for a good cause because completing the challenge meant that you agreed to donate money for the ALS treatment research. It was also the most innocent challenge in the trend.

The “Kylie Jenner Challenge”, wasn’t so fun for a girl that accepted it and got herself killed in the process. The idea behind it was for girls to suck on a shot glass or a bottle until their lips got bigger. One brave girl did exactly that, but her lips got so swollen they burst and she died due to excessive bleeding. The origin of the viral trend, Kylie Jenner, admitted using lip filters to achieve the swollen lips look.

The “Cinnamon Challenge” also sent a couple of adolescents to the hospital after they tried to swallow a spoonful of freshly grounded cinnamon in under a minute. The dusty condiment blocked their airways and could have gotten themselves killed.

The newest victim of internet trends is a 14 years old Skylar Fish who, on the 16th of January tried to complete the “Duct Tape Challenge”. This new viral trend is rather easy. The person that is brave enough to accept the challenge sits in a chair and is taped to it. The individual then has three minutes to free himself, of herself from the sticky restraint while being filmed.

Skylar Fish and his friends did exactly that, but the result was not a funny video that would gather a few likes on YouTube, but 48 stitches and the loss of an eye. Things went bad when Skylar’s friends tied him while standing. The position didn’t allow the 14 years old teenager to move and keep his balance at the same time so he fell. The impact with the concrete caused a brain aneurysm.

After being hospitalized for two weeks, the teenager is now in a rehabilitation center. He declared that he accepted the challenge because “it looked like fun”.

These internet viral trends must be better managed and explained by parents worldwide as a teen almost died after performing the “Duct Tape Challenge”.
