The Happiness App from Pebble

June 9, 2016 By Rebecca McGhee Leave a Comment

Pebble smartwatches

Pebble smartwatches have a new app that can measure happiness.

Pebble added a new feature to its smartwatches: a Happiness app that can predict how you are feeling and what you can do to change your mood.

Up until now, smartwatches and fitness bands were only used for physical wellness and organization purposes. Even though they still are very popular among clients, the key to wearable technology is apps.

Thus, by adding Happiness to its smartwatches, Pebble aims to enter the realm of emotional well-being and offer customers a new way to approach their daily base activities. And why not, at the end of the day the app may also help improve life satisfaction.

Far from directly guessing the mood, the Happiness app will just activate on an hourly basis and ask the user some questions.

For example, the app will want you to rate the mood and energy level, what have you been doing in the last hour, where you were and with whom were you with.

Then, the app will give suggestions on how to improve the mood. The advice includes activities like attending meetings, working, socializing, meditating, exercising, eating and drinking, to which the users can add their own passing times.

Pebble will also send an email with the graphic for the week, containing the user’s responses to the previous days. Based on that report, Peeble hopes to offer users a sort of assessment of how the week went, what went good and what didn’t, and how activities, location or the way a person spends its free time influences the general feeling of happiness.

The developers promise that the data will be strictly confidential and that it will use it anonymously only to improve the quality of the feature.

The Happiness app is compatible only with Pebble’s smartwatches, but it can also be used on Android phones and iPhones.

Moreover, one of Pebble’s employees monitored the internal testing of the app and shared the conclusions on a blog. It seems that the app can motivate people to adopt new habits. One person started drinking water on a more regular basis, and another began yoga classes.

The app functions as a feedback for daily activities and as a reminder to add into the schedule activities that make us happy, are useful, healthy, and have a positive impact on our lives.

The app comes with general rules for well-being, such as eating habits, sport or the need for recreational time, and it can be customized by each user to a point where it can become a very personal diary for happiness.
