The monthly bill of Verizon subscribers with unlimited phone data plan will jump this year from $30 to $50.
The $20 jump move was confirmed by Verizon to CNN this Thursday morning. The company is planning to raise the price in order to force customers to give up on their plans that remain active after they are grandfathered in.
Currently, the unlimited data plan is part of the cell phone bill, while texting and talking options are extra. A Verizon 450 plan currently costs $60 per month, if you add the new $50 rate with unlimited data plan, the monthly cost will be more than $110 with fees.
All Verizon customers will experience the increase starting November 15 on their bills. Many people need unlimited data plans, now that phones are able to stream music and videos and people are addicted to social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Due to these circumstances, in recent years people have avoided to subscribe to limited data plans. Also, once limited data plans are surpassed, any bit that is spent by the customers will be far more expensive than those covered by the plan.
In the United States at least, people prefer to pay a little more in order to benefit from unlimited Internet data. With the new plan, far more expensive than ever before, Verizon customers will be able once again to acquire new smartphones at a discount that they will have to pay in time.
AT&T is currently trying a similar strategy in order to keep people away from unlimited plans. AT&T currently refuses the customers that want to upgrade to a new data plan before their two-year contracts is set to expire. However, the company will allow you to upgrade to an unlimited data plan if you let go of your old one.
Verizon is the first of the companies that offer the plan to actually raise the price. However, the company declared that only 1% of their users will suffer from this upgrade. The company’s officials said that the price is more than justified, considering that you will get not any network, but Verizon network, which is much faster than any other in the United States at the moment.
Verizon officials say that reliability is what’s important for customers, and that most of them will not mind the price increase, considering the excellent services they get.
