French researchers are looking for volunteers wiling to lie in bed for 60 days straight.
French researchers are looking for volunteers in an important, albeit seemingly odd experiment. They are looking for male participants which will have to lie in bed for 60 days straight. Also, the team is willing to pay around $17,000 in order to accomplish this mission.
This unusual experiment is being carried out by the French Institute for Space Medicine and Physiology researchers. They will be using this study in order to determine some critical elements for future space missions.
More exactly, through this experiment, they will be trying to replicate the conditions aboard the ISS. Astronauts living on the International Space Station inhabit a weightless environment. This can have an effect on the body, one which is still being studied. As it is, the current research will come with some very specific requirements.
Volunteers Will Be Paid To Lie In Bed, But They Will Have To Meet Specific Criteria
Any volunteers willing to join the experiment must fill a set of criteria. The research will be looking for 24 participants, but all of them have to be male. Also, they have to be aged in between 20 and 45 years old. Study participants must not smoke and they shouldn’t have allergies. They must also be in “perfect” physical health.
The experiment is deceptively simple. Participants will have to lie in bed and do everything from such a position, including eating and other basic necessities. Volunteers will also have to eat antioxidant supplements. At the same time, they will have to pass through a series of tests. All of these will have to be accomplished while sitting with their head at a slightly downwards incline.
The volunteers will also have to pass through 2 weeks of tests before being accepted into the program. Then, they will spend the next 60 days lying in bed. As they do so, one shoulder should always be in contact with their bed or its frame.
