According to a new study, cinnamon could come to be used as a weight loss spice.
Do you like cinnamon? Well, now you are going to love it. A new study shows that cinnamon could be used as a weight loss spice as it can help burn fat faster. Previous research has shown that cinnamon is able to burn fat cells in mice. Now, the latest analysis discovered that the spice has the same effect on human cells.
What Makes Cinnamon a Weight Loss Spice
Researchers mentioned that cinnamon could be used as a weight loss spice due to its property to burn fat. To conduct this study, the researchers used human fat cells from volunteers. These people had different BMIs, ages, and ethnicities.
Cinnamaldehyde is an oil from cinnamon. When the research team put this on the fat cells, the oil began a process named thermogenesis. With the help of this process, the cells in the body burn energy. Cinnamaldehyde is used to produce ice cream, beverages, candy, and chewing gum. It is a compound which gives cinnamon its odor and flavor.
The researchers explained that our ancestors build up fat in the adipocytes because there used to be less access to high-fat foods. They needed the fat in the cells to help them get past winter.
Now, people have access to this type of food that gives them energy. As such, fat cells only make humans gain weight. The researchers mentioned that the study has limitations because it used the compound on fat cells, but not directly on people. They mentioned that, when people eat cinnamon, the effect of its oil might not be the same.
Scientists also mentioned that cinnamon has a strong flavor and taste and that it is very hard to consume in large doses. Usually, this gets sprinkled on different foods, for example, cinnamon buns which might not be as good for our health and weight. This is why researchers suggested that the compound could be used as a weight loss spice in capsules or powder. As such, it might be easier to consume and digest.
