A couple of weeks ago, Apple once again thrown down the gauntlet at the personal-computer market. T hen, the company’s representatives affirmed that their newest iPad Pro tablet is targeted at any person who is still utilizing an outdated PC.
This is a bold move, since there are more than 600 million computers that are over 5 years old. However, it is not obvious how Apple’s tablet will reach this daring objective at least for now. Firstly, it is lacking some features important to desktop-like tasks, especially a track pad and a mouse.
In addition to that, the producer decreases the tablet’s functionality by making it much more complicated for app developers to create office programs and earn money via the App Store. In a similar way to its powerful rivals, such as Microsoft and Google, Apple is in a competition to produce hybrids of desktops and tablets that can operate as either of these products.
Also, this means that the Cupertino giant is losing a chance to control today’s touch-based industry that it started with its iPhone. Global sales of personal computers are decreasing, but they still represent a big industry with approximately 250 million units sold in 2015.
However, iPad Pro cannot be considered a laptop or a computer alternative, since it has problems that Apple’s specialists acknowledged to be deficient for complex tasks. The tablet’s interface is user-friendly and complex, but a track pad and mouse are needed for more in-depth operations.
When the user has to touch the display for even basic tasks, like selecting paragraphs, this can be confusing and tedious. There is another reason why Apple’s tablet sales dropped over 20 percent last year, compared to 2014.
Apple has incorporated time-consuming restrictions on the creators of applications whose programs are vital to the achievements of its iPhone. The app developers affirm that Apple stops them from interacting directly with customers or from motivating them to purchase updates.
This means that app creators cannot contract their clients via e-mail lists and this is necessary to generate income and advertise other services or programs. Because of that, older applications that were first launched five years ago cannot earn additional income from Apple’s loyal customers. T
he App Store provides some benefits for app developers, particularly for major ones such as Microsoft. They offer free applications that supplement programs marketed elsewhere by registration. The in-app buys help game designers to sell accessories and updates, even if they must offer Apple 30 percent of their income generated via the App Store.
