A young woman has documented her journey from size 14 to size 6 on Instagram and her claims are surprising. Instagram user @bananas.gets.fit shared two photos of her before and after starting to eat right and exercise regularly.
Surprisingly, after two years of sticking to a strict workout plan and diet the woman put on 25 pounds instead of losing them. Nevertheless, she looks a lot fitter now at 175 pounds than she was at 150 pounds. Her secret? Scales are liars.
The woman acknowledged that, before she embarked on a fitness journey, she was very depressed and coped by eating her emotions away. After two years, she is 25 lbs heavier but visibly fitter.
She recommends her followers that are struggling with losing weight to ignore the scale, take photos and measurements on a regular basis, and “stay consistent”. The woman acknowledged that her body is not perfect and that she has cheat days. However, the most important thing is to love your body as it is.
Scales Can Be a Liar
Anna Victoria, the creator of the Fit Body Guide, which is behind @bananas.gets.fit’s success story, reposted the story on her page urging followers to throw their scales away because “the scale is a LIAR.”
Victoria too is one of those fitness buffs that doesn’t use the scale to keep track of her progress. She explained that the scale is sometimes “helpful” but it has its limitations. For instance, a scale will never be able to tell you your body’s fat percentage.
@bananas.gets.fit weighed more after the weight loss program because she gained more muscle which is heavier than fat. Too much body fat is the culprit behind the weight-associated health issues, not muscle.
Dropping a few dress sizes while working out and dieting is a much more reliable sign that your body is leaner and healthier than what a scale says.
