YouTube revealed this week a new $10-per-month registration plan in the United States called YouTube Red, which brings together ad-free video clips, online original series or content from top YouTube stars and an unlimited service of on-demand streaming music. The program is developed on Google’s current music service by offering ad-free accessibility to YouTube platform, along with other options, such as the possibility to download video clips to their smart phones and have songs playing on them while using another mobile application.
Current members of Google Play’s Music system, which also has a monthly price of $10, will also gain access to the new Red service, since this is a significant progress of YouTube’s platform. Red focuses on YouTube viewers who do not want ads, while providing them an opportunity to successfully give some dollars to their preferred video makers, who will enjoy the new earnings. It comes as other streaming services like Pandora, Hulu, TuneIn and Spotify, which already offer ad-free content as paid option.
The program, which will be released on October 28, contains exclusive new video clips going online in 2015, in addition to YouTube’s Music Key feature for songs and videos. This YouTube Music application will let users to toggle music video clips to stream sound only. The exclusive video clips will go from just a few seconds to long films and feature famous YouTube celebrities. They do not have to use this music app to enjoy Red features across all YouTube programs, apart from YouTube’s Kids’ app, launching next week. The applications, such as the current YouTube application, are now free to download from online stores.
The plan will have a price of $13 if it is bought via Apple’s iTunes, but this is only because the company charges a 30%, professionals said. If it bought through the Web or via Google Play, the registration will still run on applications operating on Apple’s Safari and iOS. YouTube still plans for marketing income to remain the primary source of money, and professionals say it could some time for paid memberships to grow considerably. Some unique material will be available to the rest of non-subscribers viewers later, but with ads showing on the screen.
The company’s’ representatives said that the registration plan will increase YouTube’s earnings and that of performers, and declared that $10 monthly is the maximum of what customers would want to pay for this steaming service. They said that YouTube’s marketing earnings will not be affected, since the variety of users coming to this new platform will not likely create a hole in YouTube’s hundreds of millions of customers.
This move comes amongst a significant growth in users hunger for ad-free ‘viewing. Ad-blocking apps have become popular on PCs, with Apple’s iOS 9 OS upgrade last month permitting ad-blocker applications to work on its Safari web browser from now on without any restrictions. Global use of ad blockers increased with 40% only in 2014 to almost 150 million customers, according to studies conducted by companies that look to fight ad blockers.
