On Tuesday, an Ohio Court of law found 22-year-old Ricki Williams IV guilty for the 2014 stabbing murder of 16-year-old Gina Burger. The Austintown murderer has been ordered to spend the next 62 years behind bars. No legal measures have been taken against Williams’ accomplice.

Austintown Murderer Tried to Sell the Girl’s Body to her Mother

Following Williams’ Tuesday conviction, Gina Burger’s family can now be at peace now that they know that the murderer is behind bars. The Austintown murderer was found guilty of stabbing to death 16-year-old Gina Burger in June 2014 and trying to hide the evidence by placing the body inside a portable playpen.

According to the Austintown murderer’s affidavit, back in June 2014, Williams invited young Gina Burger to his apartment to have sex. As soon as the teen stepped inside the apartment, Williams, armed with a kitchen knife, stabbed her in the chest several times without any motive.

The commotion was heard by Ronisha Johnson who was also present during Williams’ trial. According to the woman, when she went to the man’s apartment, Williams was pulling the knife from Burger’s chest. The perpetrator also smelled the knife before discarding it.

Seeing his neighbor at the door, Williams asked Ronisha to help him get rid of the teen’s body. Agreeing to help him, the two individuals took the body and placed it inside a portable playpen After that, Williams and Johnson carried the playpen outside and threw it in a dumpster.

Allegedly, after killing Gina and placing her body in the playpen, Williams called Gina’s mother and attempted to sell the playpen to her. Gina’s body was discovered the following day by the garbage transfer workers.

The Austintown murderer was apprehended several days later and charged with aggravated murder, kidnapping, and tampering with evidence.

Meth Dealer Discovered after Routine Traffic Stop

Meth Dealer

Meth dealer caught during traffic stop said to be suffering from amnesia.

Coffee County authorities have recently arrested a prolific drug dealer after a routine traffic stop. When confronted, the drug dealer, a 33-year-old woman, feigned amnesia and gave the officers a false date of birth.

Meth Dealer Told Investigators that She Has Amnesia

According to the Douglas-Coffee County authorities, on Tuesday, traffic monitored agents stopped a vehicle whose driver committed a minor traffic offense. While at Walderon Road and Ramblewood Road, the driver, later identified as 33-year-old Angie McCoy refused to stop at the stop sign.

When approached, the woman began acting erratically and told the officers that she’s suffering from amnesia. Moreover, to continue her masquerade, the woman supplied the officers with false personal data and declared that she did not know where she was or why was she arrested.

After running the car license plates, the authorities discovered that the amnesic driver was actually a sentenced meth dealer who was on probation. Without requesting permission from her probation officer, McCoy left her home and did not disclose her destination.

The officers who took the woman into custody drove her home, just near Trotter Road. Upon arriving at the destination, the law enforcement officers asked the woman if that is her residence. McCoy denied living there and continued claiming that she has amnesia.

However, upon investigating the police car which transported the women home, the officers discovered McCoy’s key to the apartment lying on the floor. Upon entering the house, the officers discovered an unspecified amount of methamphetamine and various tools used to produce the drugs.

Since the meth dealer violated the terms of her imprisonment, she was booked into the Coffee County Jail where she will remain for the duration of the trial. The meth dealer now faces new charges which include giving misleading into to authorities, possession of meth, and violating probation.

January 18, 2018 By Germaine Hicks Leave a Comment

Qwik Chik incident

The Baxley couple responsible for the 2017 Qwik Chik incident has been convicted.

A Baxley couple has recently been arrested and put on trial for the assault of a woman and her daughter inside the family-owned Qwik Chik restaurant.  The couple was found guilty of aggravated battery and cruelty to children.

Qwik Chik Argument Takes a Turn for the Worse

According to the court documents, in mid-June 2017, 28-year-old Latasha Denise Smith and 45-year-old Nathaniel Smith entered the family-owned Qwik Chik restaurant with the intent of having a meal.

Shortly after the waitress served their food, the Baxley couple began arguing over the food. Latasha Smith, apparently enraged by her food going cold, called on the diner’s owner, Jeanette Morris. Latasha told Jeannette that the waitress served them cold food, but the woman denied Smith’s allegation.

In the heat of the argument between the two women, Latasha rose from the table and punched the restaurant’s owner in the face. Subsequently, Nathaniel Smith, the woman’s husband, went towards Jeanette’s 15-year-old daughter and hit her in the face.

According to eyewitness accounts, the man punched the girl so hard that it slammed her against the diner’s wall. Jeannette called the authorities who arrested the Baxley couple. Both of them were charged with aggravated battery and cruelty to children.

During the recent trial, the Baxley couple was found guilty of both charges and were both sentenced to prison. For assaulting the Qwik Chik restaurant’s owner, Latasha Denise was sentenced to two years in prison with a 7-year probation period.

Subsequently, Nathaniel Smith, her husband, was sentenced to 8 years in prison with a 7-year probation period. Both victims were present during the Baxley couple’s trial.

After the incident which took place at the diner, both victims required medical assistance. The Baxley couple is also required to pay the victims $4,000.

Fresno Resident Caught on Tape While Throwing Rocks at Small Dog

January 11, 2018 By Germaine Hicks Leave a Comment

Arrested

Authorities are on the lookout for a Fresno resident who stoned a small dog.

Central Fresno law enforcement authorities are currently on the lookout for an individual who was caught on tape while throwing stones at a small dog that was following him. According to the local Animal Control spokesperson, the abused canine was discovered dead later that day. The man’s sordid performance was caught on tape by two schoolgirls passing by.

Fresno Resident Stones Small Canine Following Him

It’s only natural that people be partial to a certain kind of pet, but it’s entirely another thing to act violently when the pet you don’t like approaches you. Last week, in Central Fresno, a man could be seen abusing a small dog who seems bent on following along the street.

According to the town’s Police Department, the man’s cruel behavior was filmed and posted online by two schoolgirls who were passing by at that time. The first time the man was approached by the friendly canine he bent over to pick up something which looked like a rock.

Seconds later, the tape shows the man throwing the stone towards the dog, hitting him in the process. The dog stops and looks at the individual as he walks away. After a couple of more seconds, the dog resumes his tail. The individual sees the dog and hurls another stone at him.

According to Lisa Logue, a local Animal activist, the dog was later discovered dead in a ditch probably hit by a passing vehicle. Mark Hudson, a lieutenant in the Fresno Police Department, declared that a grievance was filed and that a squad was sent for investigation at the Evergreen Apartments.

No details have been disclosed regarding the man’s identity, only what can be observed in the short clip. Logue believes that after being hit by the second stone, the dog became confused and more than likely  wandered off in the street where he got hit by a car.

US Female Sailors’ Distress Story Smells Fishy

November 1, 2017 By Germaine Hicks Leave a Comment

personal EPIRB

For five months, two Hawaii female sailors had to survive on their own a storm damaged their sailboat beyond repair. The rescue teams found the victims of an accident stranded 933 miles southeast of Japan on October 25. Now that the women are safe, an investigation into this event is ongoing. However, the story doesn’t add up. The two sailors had access to six different communication technologies.

The Two Female Sailors Didn’t Deem Their Situation Critical Enough to Use EPIRB

Early reports on the case of the two lost sailors, Jennifer Appel and Tasha Fuiava, indicated how they faced severe storms and even shark attacks. However, recent statements contradict such a panicked experience.

Officials are wondering why the two women didn’t activate their emergency beacon or EPIRB during the five months they were stranded. Coast Guard spokeswoman Tara Molle claimed that officials had interviewed the women on this topic.

“She had stated they never felt like they were truly in distress, like in a 24-hour period they were going to die.”

The lack of a life and death situation prevented the sailors from resorting to all their six communication means. However, other inconsistencies created suspicions around women’s story.

Official Data Hold No Records of a Force 11 Storm on May 3

For instance, the two female sailors claimed that on May 3, a vicious Force 11 storm smashed the mast and rigging of their boat. This was the beginning of their five-month distress. However, the National Weather Service in Honolulu registered no storm that day. On top of that, NASA satellite imagery recorded clear sky in that period.

Appel and Fuiava claimed that they resorted to distress signals for the first 98 days without any reply. However, they failed to mention anything about their EPIRB device that remained inactive.

The Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon became a governmental requirement to be present aboard passenger vessels. This device is transmitting a coded message for around 48 hours through satellite to the nearest rescue center.

An associate professor of finance at the University of Louisiana, Linus Wilson, fears that this story would frighten others from taking up sailing as a new hobby. However, he reassures enthusiasts that this particular case doesn’t reflect the true sailboat cruising community.

Facebook Is the New Owner of tbh App Already Popular with Teens

October 18, 2017 By Germaine Hicks Leave a Comment

teenagers

Facebook has just stepped into the anonymous world of gossip. The tech behemoth acquired a new app called tbh. The title itself stands for ‘to be honest.’ The product became lovable across its target public, teenagers. Through this platform, users can send positive feedback to others. This way, receivers will feel more confident even though the compliment is anonymous.

The Popular tbh App Will Preserve its Successful Format Even Under Facebook Patronage

On Monday, Facebook announced that it is dealing with the final steps in purchasing the tbh app. However, the company is determined to preserve the original version of this product. Therefore, the app is likely to receive minimal changes. As a result, teenagers will be able to continue their positivity-focused interaction.

Over the last nine weeks, tbh recorded a total of 5 million downloads. On top of that, the company scored 2.5 million active users on average each day. The app spreads multiple-choice questions regarding users’ friends. Each answer is tailored to underline individual qualities.

Afterwards, the friends in question will receive the compassionate answers of the poll. Some of the most popular questions are “Best to bring to a party?” or “Could see becoming a poet?” The app can work only with the contacts users are uploading on its platform.

The app was officially launched back in August. Since then, users have been answering to around 1 billion poll questions. The list of downloads mostly consists of teens and high school students.

Co-Founders Will Continue Working on Their Project from Facebook’s Menlo Park Headquarters

There are no disclosed details regarding the price tag of such a transaction. However, it is certain that the four creators of the app, namely Bier, Erik Hazzard, Kyle Zaragoza, and Nicolas Ducdodon, will continue to work on their project.

The difference will consist of a relocation to Facebook’s Menlo Park headquarters. On top of that, they will be able to tap into rich resources to streamline their app.

On the other hand, the tbh team will formally become Facebook employees. This way, they won’t enjoy the unrestricted independence that WhatsApp and Instagram benefit by retaining their own emails and headquarters.

StarCraft AI Tournament Was the Stage of Facebook’s Defeat to ZZKbot

October 10, 2017 By Germaine Hicks Leave a Comment

starcraft wallpaperThe StarCraft AI tournament invited bots of all teams out there to challenge other AIs to an intergalactic battle. Facebook itself wanted to take part in this contest and quietly signed up for the quest.

This happens to be the first time when Zuckerberg’s company entered the AIIDE conference’s annual competition. This event blends entertainment with AI for the sake of research. However, the games didn’t end well for Facebook.

Facebook’s CherryPi Ranked 6th in the StarCraft AI Tournament

Facebook participated with CherryPi as one of the 28 artificial intelligence bots that competed for the best strategist. They battled one another on the plains of StarCraft II: Brood War. No human assisted them. Instead, they used machine learning technology to understand the video game and its winning strategies.

The competition took place at the Snowbird Ski Resort in Utah. Masterminds in AI put their bots to work from October 5 to 9. This is how much the Artificial Intelligence and Interactive Digital Entertainment conference lasted.

In the end, CherryPi won 2,049 games out of a total of 2,966. While this sounds impressive, it merely positioned Facebook on a respectable 6th rank.

The AI tournament chose StarCraft as the most suitable AI research environment. The production is the best game to test today’s level in AI. The gameplay requires users to focus on several areas at the same time in order to earn a victory.

Players have to scan fields, harness resources, explore foreign territories, and manage armies not to mention mastering the art of war. AI professionals believe this digital environment is better at training bots than chess can.

Winner ZZKbot Was Written by One Person and Has Been Joining AI Competitions Since 2015

The winner of the competition was the ZZKbot. Facebook’s team of eight professionals couldn’t beat a program built by one person, Chris Coxe. On the other hand, the programmer joined the AIIDE competition two years ago. In August, ZZKbot scored 1,790 wins out of 2,374 games.

The Utah tournament recorded a surprising evolution for the same program as it scored 2,465 games out of 2,966. This achievement propelled Coxe’s bot to Number One place.

Japanese Woman Worked Herself to Death after 159 Hours of Overtime in a Month

October 8, 2017 By Germaine Hicks Leave a Comment

nhk headquartersMiwa Sado was a promising reporter working for state-run broadcaster NHK in Tokyo. She spent a month of the summer of 2013 working overtime. The Japanese woman ended up clocking 159 hours in addition to her regular work time in 30 days. Due to exhaustion, she succumbed to death. However, her employer revealed only this week this tragic event.

The Japanese Woman Died of Congestive Heart Failure

Miwa Sado was one of the female media workers striving for career achievements in one of the most prestigious companies in 2013 in Japan. The reporter used even her weekends for professional tasks.

On top of that, she used to stay in her office until midnight. Her parents recollected of one of her rare occasions when she contacted them. This contact happened on her birthday, June 26. She responded to one of their emails, yet she sounded exhausted.

Almost a month after her birthday, a congestive heart failure ended her life. At the time of her death, she was 31. However, it was only this week when NHK released a statement about this tragedy. Spokespersons claimed that their employee took only two days off during July 2013.

Karoshi or “Death from Overwork” Has Been Infecting the Japanese Working Environment Since the 1980s

The case of Miwa Sado has become the latest profile that showcases the cultural phenomenon of karoshi or “death from overwork.” This term appeared in the 1980s when the Japanese government was boasting of the miraculous economic boom the country registered after war.

However, it turns out that this performance was no miracle-worker. In fact, it was due to the birth of a social trend that put to shame all those people who didn’t work to exhaustion.

This corrosive professional approach endured the test of time. In today’s world, this mentality affects white-collar executives, immigrant trainees, and automotive engineers mostly.

In 2016, an official report documented karoshi. Almost a quarter of the interviewed companies claimed that some of their employees are clocking 80 hours of overtime per month.

A 2014 report discovered enough evidence to link Sado’s death to her demanding career. The labor office in Tokyo claimed that the Japanese woman couldn’t have taken free time even if she wanted. Her work responsibilities took up all of her time. Her colleagues described her last month as being sleep deprived and fatigued.

SEC Alleges Amazon Insider Leaked Illegal Tips to Two Wannabe Traders

September 10, 2017 By Germaine Hicks Leave a Comment

amazon headquarters
Two friends dreamed of opening their own hedge fund. However, they needed a strategy to gain correct insights into tech giants’ future moves. Instead of resorting to the hard way, the two of them turned to a friend who was also an Amazon insider. The mole delivered them enough illegal tips for them to appear as top traders. However, SEC sniffed their shabby operation eventually.

The Group of Three Planned to Build a Reputation and Open a Hedge Fund to Channel Their Momentum

Maziar Rezakhani and Sam Sadeghi performed $10,000 worth of payments to Amazon analyst Brett Kennedy. The merchandise they acquired through these funds was nonpublic data. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission stated on Thursday that this was the way the two wannabe traders learned about company’s 2015 earnings after the first quarter.

Through this move, they aimed at building an impressive reputation for themselves. Afterwards, they would have opened a New York hedge fund together to serve those hyped on their valuable insights. Trader Rezakani and Amazon insider Kennedy were friends since 2009. They even attended the same fraternity organization during college.

In the end, the illegal trades amounted to $116,000, and the profits were stocked in a brokerage account created in the name of Rezhakani. Before Amazon issued its quarterly report, Rezakhani published the real numbers claiming to messaging boards that the results were obvious even for a 5-year-old. He started building up from there an image of a know-it-all trader on social media.

The Two Wannabes and Amazon Insider Have to Pay Heavy Settlemens

However, SEC’s new charges have to wait. Rezakhani is currently getting ready to serve five years in prison. This sentence is the outcome of a guilty plea in a fraud case concerning Apple Inc, the U.S. Internal Revenue Service, and other shipping companies.

In this scheme, Rezakhani ordered numerous iPhones with resale rights. However, he ended up claiming that his order was stolen before it reached him. Nonetheless, his luxurious lifestyle gave him away, and he is to pay $3.5 million in restitution.

As for SEC’s case, Kennedy agreed to a $10,000 settlement without commenting on the validity of agency’s allegations. Sadeghi has to pay another $24,000 without revealing his position regarding this wrongdoing.

The Secret behind Contagious Yawns Can Hide Treatment for Tourette Syndrome

September 3, 2017 By Germaine Hicks Leave a Comment

new born
It is hard for people to refrain from reciprocating a yawn when they see someone do it. It turns out that science backs up this odd phenomenon which is actually a primitive reflex. However, contagious yawns are a crucial matter to study further. This behavior can hide the secret to treating disorders such as the Tourette syndrome.

What Contagious Yawns and Neural Conditions Have in Common is Echophenomena

Scientists from the University of Nottingham, England stated that humans remained with an ancient trait known as echophenomena. This characteristic alone makes people yawn involuntarily when they watch another person do it.

Echophenomena is actually a social reflex that helps people better integrate into a community. This instinct tells them to imitate words, actions or gestures that they see or hear from members of a group. This way, the other people will find them to their liking and will eventually include them in their community.

On the other hand, echophenomena appears in neurodevelopment conditions as well. Autism, epilepsy, and Tourettes have this trait in common. When scientists decipher the exact mechanism behind this ancient reflex, they might also be able to create an effective treatment for these conditions.

Scientists Found a Lever that Switch on the Excitability that Made Them Yawn

The team conducted experiments with a group of 36 people regarding contagious yawns. Participants watched videos of persons yawing. Scientists recorded the number of times people reciprocated and fought against this instinct. The findings indicated that it was hard for a person to suppress a yawn. The fighting becomes even harder when someone told participants not to yawn.

The experiment has also applied electrical stimulation. Under the influence of this external force, participants encountered a higher necessity to reciprocate yawning. Nottingham scientist Georgina Jackson stated that they were pleased to find this lever that turned on echophenomena. To cure Tourettes, they just have to find a way to turn it off.

“In Tourettes, if we could reduce the excitability we might reduce the ticks.”

Therefore, scientists need to find the source of the excitability that follows a neural condition. It is easier to find it through healthy people that don’t have this trait activated all the time. Therefore, researchers need more studies to find out how contagious yawns really work.
