After a heated discussion held on the social media site Twitter between the Republican presidential candidate and the CEO of both Amazon and Washington Post, Donald Trump is invited by Jeff Bezos to get shot into space.
This discussion started when Donald Trump attacked the Washington Post claiming that it is only a way for the CEO to decrease taxes for his other company, Amazon. This has been seen by many as a nonsense statement, mainly due to the fact that Amazon is a no-profit company, thus the requirement of taxes from said company are moot.
This attack was used as a counter to Washington Posts’ previous article revolving around ways through which another presidential candidate, Jeb Bush, could beat Trump in the campaign. The ways proposed were running negative presidential campaign adds in South Carolina, Iowa and New Hampshire targeted specifically at Donald Trump.
It took around 8 hours for the CEO Jeff Bezos to post a retort to this statement, mainly due to the fact that up until now, the CEO only used Tweeter four times. His response was simple and clear, offering Donald Trump a seat on his Blue Origin space faring company’s rocket. This also came with the birth of a new hashtag, #sendDonaldtospace.
This move was met with ridicule towards the Republican candidate, with many Twitter users joking on the fact that Donald Trump should spread his campaign to other planets. Some even claimed that because Blue Origin focuses on space faring technology that allows the rocket to land back on Earth, he should be given only a one-way ticket to space.
Taking into account that Jeff Bezos is currently on the 5th place in the billionaire top 10 list, with his net worth being $59.4 billion, with Trump sitting at only $4 billion, the presidential candidate hasn’t chosen his target very carefully. Jeff Bezos is currently taking part in an alliance made with other business tycoons, such as Bill Gates, in order to fund the development and distribution of clean and renewable energy.
Republican candidate Donald Trump has managed to achieve something that no other presidential candidate has ever achieved in our entire history during this presidential campaign. He managed to get the same answer from both the Democratic party as well as the Republican one when stating that the US should close its borders to all Muslims, following the recent mass shooting in California last week.
The answer was a clear dismissal from both parties’ members. This made Donald Trump fall even more in his public rating. A similar decrease was noticed when he claimed that at the start of his business life, he was given a “small loan” of 1 million dollars, a statement that made the public at large see him with a high degree of ridicule and skepticism.
Even if Donald Trump is invited by Jeff Bezos to get shot into space as a joke, this still proves both the public opinion as well as a part of the corporate opinion towards the Republican presidential candidate. The aftermath of the discussion has sprouted countless ridiculing tweets across the internet, ranging from parodies of his campaign motto to real campaign ideas that can be applied to Jupiter.
