As per the recent Bloomberg reports, CNN has stopped the broadcasting in Russia, in accordance with the move coming after the country passed a new law to limit the foreign possession in media companies.
“Time Warner’s Turner Broadcasting division stated in an email statement, “We wishes to resume broadcasting eventually.” The Russia’s Vedomosti newspaper initially reported the move. The article notes – as per the statement, CNN’s Moscow bureau operations are unaffected.
Turner said in his statement, “Turner International is evaluating its distribution choices for CNN in Russia considering recent alterations in Russian media legislation. We’re getting our existing distribution associations to an end by doing this. We are hoping to re-enter the market sooner or later, and can inform our partners with the update about re-commencing these services.”
Bloomberg added, “The law entails Russian media with foreign proprietors to lessen non-Russian possession to 20% by the end of 2016.”
