How To Discover Pregnancy Through A Fitbit Fitness Tracker

February 10, 2016 By Chen Lai 1 Comment

The woman had noticed unusual spikes in her heart rate on Fitbit.

The woman had noticed unusual spikes in her heart rate on Fitbit.

The rumored case of the man who found out he is going to be a father by odd ways, shows us how to discover pregnancy through a Fitbit fitness tracker. When a man took to Reddit to work out what was wrong with his wife’s health and exercise tracker, he received some life-changing news.

While people have filed a lawsuit against Fitbit over allegations of inaccurate heart rate tracking, one woman has her Fitbit’s heart rate tracker to thank for giving her a heads up on her pregnancy.

The story started when a husband and wife in New York City noticed some unusual readings coming out of the fitness tracker the wife was using. With the unusual data in hand, the husband — who identified himself as David, his first name, to BuzzFeed News — took to Reddit in search of some feedback.

After posting about his wife’s unusual Fitbit data on Reddit, one Redditor’s deciphering of the fitness tracking device’s readings led David to suddenly realize that he may be en route to fatherhood.

He commented to say that

Pregnancy is a strong possibility, didn’t know that would jack up the heart rate. I might be a dad, YIKES. Now I gotta watch my own heart rate.

Sure enough, a day later he checked back to confirm that he is going to be a dad.

As it turns out, David and his wife had been trying to conceive a child, but neither had any idea that an above normal heart rate was any indicator of pregnancy. Subsequently, the couple decided to verify the pregnancy and in the words of the future father himself, he and his wife ‘were both obviously very surprised’ and ‘very happy’ with the results.

Dr. Mary Jane Minkin with Yale-New Haven Hospital claimed that it is true that significant spikes in heart rates can occur during pregnancy. The doctor added that she believes these increased heart rate readings were actually the result of an increase in body temperature seen in the early part of pregnancy. This can explain the slightly elevated heart rate.

However, the interesting thing is that Fitbit can pick up on those increases.

Meanwhile, David stated that he and Ivonne were extremely excited to welcome their new addition.

It’s definitely a great story to tell [the baby] one day about how it happened, and [we are] happy to have all the support of people on Reddit.

added the soon-to-be father.
