It can be tough for children growing with tensions and depression along with behavioral problems, but a latest study reveals that these kids can be helped using music therapy along with some help from their parents. This has been found out by researchers from a trust from the Northern Ireland, along with the Queens University at Belfast.
These are results of the data gathered from a period of three long years that started from March 2011 towards the end of 2014. This involved a group of individuals who were undergoing treatments for their behavioral, development, and emotional problems.
The research team lead by Sam Porter had divided the participants of 251 children into two groups. The first one consisted of 128 children and the other one had 123 individuals. The first group had been receiving traditional therapy according to the norms prescribed, while the other group was assigned to undergo music therapy along with the normal prescribed care.
At the conclusion of the study, it was found by the researchers that those children who were undergoing music therapy had been showing greater life esteem and much reduced level of depression as against those who were under normal treatment. Other significant improvement found amongst them was that they were better at communicating with the other people and had also been showing better interactive skills.
It also showed that the follow-ups with this method could sustain the beneficial effects on those children for a much longer time. The chief executive of the trust Ciara Reilly told that they preferred using Music therapy for those children who had mental problems, and that the study showed some random effect and they had been relying on random results to prescribe drugs to these children.
But this study has raised hopes that the results shown here can help the medical research and the experts in this field to look at this therapy as an alternative one to usual drugs prescribed. With clear and robust evidence regarding this theory, this can be tried on a large scale to find out other factors that are involved and can improve the theory.
