Rumors of Vladimir Putin’s Illness or Death Put to Rest

March 14, 2015 By Deborah Nielsen Leave a Comment

PutinHaving missed a week of engagements, rumors that Russian President Vladimir Putin was ill or had died were finally put to rest after the Kremlin released several photos. During his absence, people speculated that he was dealing with major health issues or had passed away but three images clearly show he is very much alive and well.

In the released photographs, Putin is seen meeting with the head of Moscow’s Supreme Court. In addition, Russia 24, which is the state broadcaster, aired their own video footage of the same meeting. While this development has put many people at ease, several news agencies to include CNN have not been able to independently confirm the meeting happened as indicated.

Dimitry Peskov, spokesman for the President, jokingly dispelled rumors of Putin’s ill health or death saying he was simply down because of spring fever.

In Peskov’s statement, he said that when the sun shines in the spring and people feel it in the air, the fever starts. He added that there are people who long for Sechin and the government’s resignation and that others have not seen Putin for several days on television but people in Russia are calm on the fever and are always patient when answering questions.

While speaking on Echo of Moscow, a country’s radio station, the people of Russia were urged not to be concerned, stressing that President Putin is perfectly fine. One caller asked if Putin’s handshake was firm to which Peskov comment it could break a hand.

Rumors about various country leaders are nothing new. Just this past fall, North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong Un, was said to be sick or dead after being out of the public eye for over a month. As with Putin, images of Jong Un were released to prove that he was fine although walking with the aid of a cane.

Regarding Putin, concerns arose following the postponement of a scheduled meeting in the Kazakh capital of Astana between him and presidents of Belarus and Kazakhstan. However, it was confirmed by Peskov that the meeting was only delayed, although no new date was provided.

According to the Kremlin press office, Putin has a planned meeting with Almazbek Atambayev, his Krygyz counterpart, in the city of St. Petersburg. The last time President Putin was seen in public was on International Women’s Day. However, he has attended several meetings since that time, something supported by still images posted on the Kremlin’s website.

Google Shuts Down All Its Russian Engineering Offices

December 15, 2014 By Deborah Nielsen Leave a Comment

Google shuts his offices in Russia

Google announced that it intends to close all its engineering offices in Russia. However, the biggest tech giant said that it will “remain committed” to its Russian users.

The company informed that it has transferred engineers to other countries. Merely a few workers will stay there to control the sales, support, communication and marketing of the company.

A new internet rule of Russia compels Google to relocate its engineers. Currently, around 50 engineers work in the engineering offices of Google located in Russia. However, after the execution of the law Google gives a choice to engineers whether they want to move with the company or not.

Russia is a strict country when it comes to the laws designed to control the Internet activities.  At the start of 2014, Russian government proposed a rule that compel the internet firms to store citizen’s personal data in Russia.

A few months ago, Russian parliament implemented the new regulation regarding the internet firms.

The authorities inform that this law is specially formed to ensure the data protection. However, some analysts state that it is a clever attempt of officials to block particular sites through this law.

Generally, tech firms store users’ data in different data storage facilities. The storage houses of the companies are situated all around the globe.  It indicates that it is pretty difficult for the tech companies to store data in the same country.

A spokesman of Google refused to disclose the reason behind this action.

Firefox Drops Google for Search and Signs Yahoo

November 20, 2014 By Germaine Hicks 1 Comment

yahoo all set to replace Google

Mozilla puts an end to its ten year relationship with Google and joined hands with Yahoo. Yahoo will be the new default search engine for the Firefox browser of mobile devices as well as PC.

Google has provided its services for Firefox browsers since 2004. However, this year Firefox planned to select a different provider for its customers.  Therefore, the company has signed an agreement with Yahoo for a long time period of five years.  The Firefox search engine will perform another bid after five years. Nonetheless, the company has not disclosed the basic terms and condition of the deal.

Nevertheless, Firefox users can still opt for a search engine of their own choice.

Unfortunately, Google Chrome rules almost 90 percent of the U.S markets. Therefore, it would be really tough job for Firefox to beat Chrome in that particular country.

According to a recent report by StatCounter, Firefox has merely 10 percent of browsers on desktop computers of the Unites States. On the other hand, Google Chrome controls more than 33 percent of  the tablets and smart phones.

Marisa Mayer, the CEO of Yahoo stated that it is certainly an important partnership deal for the company. Yahoo considers search as an arena of investment and opportunities.

Moreover, the firm intends to direct its FireFox to Baidu search engine in China and Yandex in Russia.
